LEAD AND HEALTHY HOMES ABATEMENT/REPAIRS GRANT – CITY OF NEWARK

HUD and the NJ Department of Community Affairs have awarded the City of Newark a Lead Hazard Reduction (LHR), Healthy Homes Production (HHP), and Lead Remediation and Abatement (LRAP) grants to help Newark residents to live in a lead safe environment.

Apply Now – Don’t Wait before the money runs out! We can help you to remediate lead-based paint and other healthy homes hazards in your home utilizing these grants.

This program can address a variety of environmental health hazards posing health risks to occupants in homes.  Such hazards include: lead, mold, allergens, asthma, carbon monoxide, pesticides, home safety, risk of falls, fire, electrical hazards, and other home hazards with the potential to cause injuries.

The goal of the program is to provide Lead-Safe housing and Healthy Homes.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR THE LEAD HAZARD REDUCTION & HEALTHY HOMES GRANT?

HOMEOWNERS AND TENANTS

The following are eligibility criteria:

  • Home built before 1978
  • Household income < 80% area median income (refer to Income Limits Summary at the end of your application package)
  • If unit is occupied by tenant/owner where a child under age six either lives/visits frequently
  • If there is a pregnant woman residing at the unit.
  • If a Notice of Violation is issued for the unit.  Vacant units may be covered.
  • Priority is given to units occupied by a child with an elevated blood lead level.

Healthy Homes Grant:

  • Household income < 80% area median income (refer to Income Limits Summary on Page 13)
  • Households with children under eighteen years of age
  • Persons living with disabilities
  • Seniors 62 years and over
