Property Management

The Division of Property Management provides real estate management services for properties acquired by the City of Newark until they can be returned to the city tax rolls or transferred to a nonprofit.

The Division promotes redevelopment throughout Newark through the coordinated management, assembly and disposition of City owned properties. Property Management also serves as a source of revenue for the Department of Economic and Housing Development through Property Sales, Auctions, and Temporary Leasing Agreements.

The Division addresses and repurposes vacant lots & dilapidated properties through

  • Private Sales to Redevelopers, Residents, Community Organizations and Entrepreneurs
  • Transfers to the Newark Land Bank
  • Adopt a Lot including Community Gardens
  • Art Initiative program
  • Murals and Sculptures
  • Demolition of condemned structures to address health and safety issues
  • Boarding up of vacant deteriorated properties
