Mayor Ras J. Baraka and Deputy Mayor of Community Engagement Jacqueline Mercado-Quiles will host an Easter Sunday celebration on Sunday, April 20, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Taino’s Kitchen, at 849 Mt. Prospect Avenue, in the City’s North Ward. The event is FREEand open to the public.
At the celebration, residents can receive Easter baskets (first come, first served), candy, books, toys, care packages, and a wide array of resource materials at information tables.
“Easter is a time to celebrate the continuation of life and victory over its challenges; a time to contemplate the real meaning of love and redemption, and cherish what truly matters,” said Mayor Baraka. “Whether you celebrate a religious holiday or not at this time of year, I wish every Newarker the renewal and refreshing spirit of springtime, and the growth and beauty it promises.”
“Every Easter, Newark neighbors to come out and enjoy community as one people unified by our common hopes and dreams,” said Deputy Mayor Mercado-Quiles. “Just like the individual cherry blossoms blooming in Branch Brook Park right now, we all belong to something bigger – a city made stronger by our engagement. I thank Mayor Baraka for his constant care and support, and for all the generous sponsors who have made this event possible.”
The event will feature the Easter Bunny, an egg hunt and a children’s fashion show. DJ Santolo will provide music throughout its duration.
Sponsors include Wellpoint; Popular Community Bank; Taino’s Kitchen; SNJ Glass and Aluminum, LLC; Good Deal Homegoods, Inc.; the Hispanic Law Enforcement Society of Essex County and the Hispanic Firefighters Association of Newark, New Jersey.
